Kudos to James!!

I watched a short clip this morning of James Spann at the Meteorologist convention, talking about the lives lost in the April tornadoes here in Alabama.  BTW - I am a personal fan of ABC 33/40 weather.  I think that James and Jason both do a great job during severe weather.  They are both so familiar with the state in general and the individual areas and can pinpoint movement by giving actual "landmarks" that you know exactly where they are talking about.

These guys work long, hard hours in severe weather outbreaks and do an absolutely wonderful job of keeping us informed.  But I loved what James had to say about taking personal responsibility as well.  Most of the time, almost always, the possibility of outbreaks of severe weather are forecast well ahead of time for us.  We have to take the initiative to stay informed however.  I especially liked one of James' comments on this when he said that with some people, unless a government official came and banged on the door and physically took them to an underground bunker, they would say that they did not have sufficient warning.

In this day and age of technology, where most people are absolutely lost without their computer or, more particularly, their Blackberry, Android or I-Phone, there is absolutely no excuse not to be informed regarding severe weather.  How many of you check Facebook daily to see what is going on with family and friends?  Can you not do the same to check on severe weather??

What do you guys think?  Must we personally carry part of the responsibility for our safety during severe weather?
