Of course, as everyone knows, one of the main focuses of the news for the past week has been the scandal at Penn State which resulted in head football coach, Joe Paterno, being fired. The university president was also fired, but the main focus has been on Paterno.
After reading a day-by-day account of this entire scenario, one has to wonder why it took so long for anything to be done to stop the alleged sexual abuse of young boys at the University by Paterno's former defensive coordinator, Sandusky.
According to information, including a statement from Paterno himself, he reported an incident of sexual abuse to his superior at Penn State. Apparently, nothing was done at this time. This leads to two questions:
1. When nothing was done by his superiors, why did Paterno not notify police?
2. Given his failure to do nothing more, should Paterno's actions, or rather non-actions, be considered as part of the cover up and does this justify his being fired?
What do you think?
