OK - so I had never ventured out on Black Friday. This morning, I decided to "take the plunge" and join the rest of the world in "shopping" on Black Friday. I didn't leave until about 9 AM, so I did miss the 5 AM madhouse. I started at LifeWay Christian Bookstore in Trussville. It was more crowded than I had ever seen it before. I was able to get all the items I went after, except for one. I thought that was a pretty good record so far.
My next stop was for breakfast - at Cracker Barrel. Now, I'm not sure, but I think that area is still deemed Trussville. Needless to say, it was a "put your name on the list" and wait deal. but, i really did not have to wait a very long time. Service was less than perfect, to say the least, but the food was good.
I had planned to travel on over to the Big K on Chalkville Mountain Road, but a phone call when I got back in my car from breakfast changed all that. Someone, who shall remain nameless, had neglected to get online yesterday and nail down a Santa present. When he proceeded to take care of that today, he could not find one - yep - all sold out! So, a trip back to Trussville to Target. Their website stated that they had the item on hand in their Trussville store - but when I got there all the ones they had were gone. I decided to go up to Best Buy and take a chance there. YEAH - success. They still had some left.
So, now that Christmas was saved (yes, I was feeling good about my luck there), I proceeded to the Big K. I was able to pick up a few items there also. This pretty much finished off my Christmas list. But, I decided on one more stop at the Dollar Tree. I mean, after all, what is a shopping trip without going by Dollar Tree? Of course, this was after a stop at the Dairy Queen across the street from Big K for a dipped cone!
Last stop - Dollar Tree. I picked up a few things there and decided it was time to head home. It is 3:45 PM and I am home from my first adventure out on Black Friday. I had survived.
I do not know if the merchants used very good management planning, or if retail sales were simply down due to the economy, but there were sufficient cashiers at all the places i visited and the traffic and crowds of people were not nearly as bad as I had thought it would be. All in all - a good day!
Did you get out today??
