Texting in the News Again

Do you love to text?  Of course, I understand not texting while driving.  I also understand various cities and states passing laws banning texting while driving, although you would think that was simply common sense.

But if texting is your thing, you may want to stay away from Fort Lee, New Jersey.  The police department in Fort Lee, NJ is about to begin giving tickets for jaywalking to people caught texting while walking - yes - you heard me right - while walking!  The fine for texting while walking is $85.00.

The police chief says they have had three pedestrian-involved fatal accidents this year and is blaming texting while walking for these accidents.

Now, I think most people would agree that it seems the government is slowly taking away more and more of our rights.  I think this may be a good example of this.  While pedestrian-involved fatal accidents are sad, we are not pre-school aged children. 

Don't you think some things should simply be left to our common sense - instead of yet more laws and regulations?  What do you think?
