Campaigning - Big Business

Campaigning, as always, is big business.  I heard reported this morning on the news that one of the candidate raised $9 million dollars in the month of February.  Of course, to most of us that seems like an amazing amount of money!

I understand that we need to know about the candidates - have information so that we can make informed decisions when it comes time to vote.  Goodness knows, we need to make good choices at the poll.  But - does it really take $9 million dollars a month to inform the people where you stand on issues - especially in this age of technology?  Information can be spread more easily, to a more vast audience, and much more cheaply than ever before.  Given the state of our economy - the number of people losing their homes - the number of hungry adults and children right here in our own country - the number of people losing jobs - does it really make sense to spend such massive amounts of money on political campaigns???

Can you think of better ways to spend $9 million dollars??  How many people could that money have actually helped??

I look forward to hearing your opinion on this!

  1. That is just a drop in the bucket. Billions are spent every presidential election for a job that doesn't pay nearly that much. Wonder why we have bribery, favoritism and graft in politics??

    1. Perhaps some focus needs to be placed on reforming campaign guidelines. If the amount of money allowed to be spent was less, candidates could still get their message out and there would not be so many big contributions from organizations, individuals and corporations who are later looking for favors as payback!

Let the candidates finance their own campaigns.
