Well, the presents are all open – the food has all either been eaten or is stored in the refrigerator and will be eaten on for a few more days. The company is all gone. What is left?
You may think that what is left is a MESS! Wrapping paper to be picked up and thrown in the garbage. There are empty boxes that won’t fit in the garbage can to be dealt with. Then, of course, the entire house needs to be vacuumed. Goodness – we are tired already and have not even gotten to that kitchen! Of course, the kitchen needs a thorough cleaning, including the floor where the children dropped food and spilled drinks. You are thinking that you are really glad you had an extra day off to deal with all this stuff.
Once the cleaning is done and all the new presents put away, you are absolutely worn out. You are probably more tired than if you had gone to your job today. Do you feel a kind of “let down” now that it is all over with? Do you feel a tinge of depression? Was the whole last month’s flurry of activity getting ready for that one day really worth it?
So –what now? Well, that depends. Did your Christmas Day focus on the real meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus – or did that just kind of get “left out”? If you did not make time in your day yesterday to actually celebrate the birth of Christ, then you probably do feel just exhausted and let down.
But – if you were careful to take the time to remember what Christmas is really about – and took time to celebrate, in some manner, the birth of Christ – and took time to actually thank him for all your blessings – no matter how big or small – then you probably are still exhausted – but instead of feeling “let down”, you should be filled with a feeling of peace and joy.
You see, how you feel today says a lot about how you celebrated Christmas, as well as how you “could” feel today.
How do you feel today?
